The Usee Way: Building Excellence into Security Engineering in Ireland
At Usee.ie, our ambition is to become the best engineering business in Ireland.
We know that reputation has to be earned through everyday work: how we prepare, how we install and support security systems, how we communicate with customers and how we respond when something needs attention.
To help us achieve that ambition, we have developed our Usee Engineering Bible — The Usee Way.
It sets out the standards we are building across our engineering team, Industrial Design Centre, service team, administration and leadership. Its purpose is straightforward: to give every customer a consistently professional experience and every member of our team the support to deliver it.
What does excellence in security engineering look like?
For a customer, engineering quality extends well beyond the equipment installed.
It means an engineer arriving prepared and at the agreed time. It means understanding what work will take place, receiving a clear explanation of any problem and knowing what happens next.
It also means careful workmanship, a clean site, a system that has been tested and accurate records that make future support easier.
Whether we are delivering CCTV, intruder detection, access control or an intercom system, these details shape the customer’s experience and the long-term reliability of the installation.
The Usee Way brings those expectations together in one shared handbook.
Better preparation before an engineer reaches site
Good security engineering begins before dispatch.
Our Industrial Design Centre provides a central place for equipment preparation, testing, documentation and practical learning.
The handbook sets out a process for checking deliveries against orders, recording equipment details, preparing configurations and testing the intended functions before equipment goes to site.
Engineers should have the job information, drawings, tools, access arrangements and technical support they need to complete the work properly.
This preparation helps reduce avoidable delays and gives the site team a stronger starting point.
Consistent workmanship and verified results
Every installation should be delivered with care for the customer’s property and the people using it.
The Usee Way covers equipment positioning, cable routing, fixings, labelling, cabinet organisation and protection of the work area. It also makes clear that engineers should raise concerns when site conditions differ from the agreed design.
Testing is equally important.
For CCTV, that can include checking camera views, recording, playback and authorised remote access. For access control, alarms and intercoms, the relevant functions must be tested against the agreed scope.
The results, limitations and outstanding actions should be recorded. Customers deserve a clear account of what has been delivered and verified.
Customer communication is an engineering responsibility
Technical knowledge is valuable when it helps the customer understand their system.
Our engineers are expected to explain findings in plain language, communicate delays and seek approval for additional chargeable work.
At handover, customers should understand the everyday functions they need, any known limitations and how to request support.
When a job cannot be completed immediately, the next action must have an owner. The customer should know what remains outstanding and when they will receive an update.
Following through is part of the service.
Building systems we can support over time
A security system needs accurate information behind it.
Equipment records, configuration details, drawings, licences and test results help another competent engineer understand the installation and provide effective support.
The Usee Way makes documentation part of completing the job. It also sets expectations for secure access and the careful handling of credentials and customer information.
For customers with service agreements, our service processes include defined reviews of relevant monitoring reports and platform alerts, with faults recorded, assessed and escalated according to their impact and agreed support cover.
This connects installation with the ongoing care of the system.
Developing our people and improving our business
Our team includes people at different stages of their careers. We want experienced engineers to keep developing and apprentices to have a clear path towards competence.
The handbook connects real jobs and recurring faults with practical training in the IDC. It encourages people to ask questions, identify knowledge gaps and seek help early.
It will also form the foundation of future staff reviews, with expectations appropriate to each person’s role and experience.
Those reviews will help us recognise good work and identify what people need to progress. They will also highlight where management must improve planning, tools, information or support.
The standards apply throughout the business, including leadership.
Our pursuit of excellence
Publishing a handbook is a starting point. Its value comes from using it, reviewing our work and improving what we do.
We will look at preparation, customer feedback, repeat faults, documentation and training to understand where we are making progress and where further work is needed.
Our aim is to build a security engineering business that customers trust, employees are proud to represent and people confidently recommend.
That is the purpose of The Usee Way.
